Elite MPX Laser

Laser Hair Removal

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in 2010 laser hair removal was the third most commonly performed non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the U.S. The Elite MPX Laser by Cynosure is the most advanced LASER on the market today especially given the cultural diversity and increasing population of patients of color in aesthetic medicine. The unique ability to use either "Gold Standard" Laser hair removal wavelengths, the alexandrite or the Nd:YAG alone or in Cynosure's exclusive and proprietary "Multiplex" sequential firing pattern with the revolutionary Elite MPX enables treatment of the full spectrum of skin colors regardless of ethnicity as well as greatly improving the ability to treat finer hair on dark skin. Elite MPX can also be used in microsecond mode to reduce pore size, acne scars and dermis pigmentation. The larger, 18 mm spot size, enables deeper and stronger penetration of energy resulting in less discomfort and more effective results.

Another key advantage of the Elite MPX is the integrated Air-cooling. In contrast to contact cooling, air-cooling protects the skin by delivering lower temperature and properly cooling the skin before and after the pulse. This method of controlled cooling allows for more comfort, better healing of the treated skin and is believed to reduce complications such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which can be unbelievably aggravating to the patient.

Due to the large range of Laser wavelengths available, the Elite MPX offers:

1. The most comprehensive range of permanent hair reduction applications available today on all skin types and tanned skin;

2. Treatment of facial and leg "spider veins" or telangiectasias;

3. Treatment of pigmented lesions or lentigenes such as brown spots, freckles, dyschromias, and Roseacea.

4. Treatment of sun-damaged or photo-aged skin with Laser facial or IPL photo facial.

5. Treatment of facial skin laxity and texture irregularity

6. Treatment of Stretch Marks

7. Treatment of Acne Scars

Common Questions About Laser Hair Removal

What is the Elite MPX Laser?
It's the most technologically advanced laser on the market for permanent hair reduction. The device is powered by the MultiPlex technology which sequentially fires the ND:YAG and the Alexandrite wavelengths through the same hand-held device. With its precise timing, its more efficient, safer, and more comfortable than single-wavelength lasers. As the most sought after and versatile platform on the market today, the Elite MPX can treat hair removal on all skin types, and it can treat wrinkles, pigmentation, redness, and it can treat facial and leg veins, and it can be used for photofacials.

What makes MultiPlex better than other lasers?
For those with lighter skin, the most effective wavelength is the 755 Alexandrite wavelength, whereas with darker skin tones, it's better to use the 1064 nm or Nd:Yag laser. Since the MultiPlex uses two wavelengths sequentially, each one can be adjusted to provide the most suitable treatment of the follicle without reducing the efficiency, thus making the Elite MPX the most powerful device on the market today.

What types of benefits can I expect?
You can expect smoother skin, there aren't any ingrown hairs, it's faster than electrolysis, it saves time and money over temporary methods, and it enhances your image and boosts your confidence.

Will the hair grow back?
Laser hair removal is a permanent procedure, and the average patient can safely anticipate achieving from 70% to a 90% permanent hair reduction. However, hair removal isn't as effective on lighter hair colors such as blond, red and grey and hormonal changes can cause the hair to grow back, which will require touch ups. Since we can treat all hair and skin types with the Elite MPX, we suggest that you schedule a consultation so we can give you a clear idea of what kinds of results you can realistically expect.

How does the laser work?
The laser uses a beam of light energy that is absorbed by the pigmentation, the melanin and the blood vessels of the hair follicle. Once the follicle absorbs the light, it is converted into heat, thereby destroying the follicle. Once the person's hair follicle is destroyed, it can no longer re-grow hair. Due to the technologically advanced Elite MPX laser, the tissue surrounding the hair follicle is unharmed, leaving your skin smooth and silky.

Hair follicles go through both active and dormant stages; therefore, it will require more than one treatment to complete the process. During each of your treatments, we will cover all of the surface area of the skin; however, only the active follicles will be affected during each treatment session. Since about 30 to 50% of your hair is active at any given time, it will be necessary to undergo multiple treatment sessions to get each and every follicle.

Will laser hair removal hurt?
During the procedure, it's common to feel a slight prickly sensation. It's important to remember that everyone has a different pain threshold and what one person considers painful may not affect another person at all. The level of pain you experience will depend upon your own sensitivity to the procedure, but most people tolerate the treatment well. There are a variety of treatments that can be used to reduce the discomfort during the procedure and these include numbing cream and applying ice packs during treatment. We will do everything we can to help keep you as comfortable as possible.

Are there any side effects?
Fortunately, the side effects associated with laser hair removal are generally mild and temporary and while uncommon, they can include: temporary redness, small bumps (follicular edema), mild to moderate burns or blisters, darkening skin, itching and swelling in the treated area, and bruising. We recommend avoiding sun exposure for two weeks prior and two weeks following the treatment. Also, women who are pregnant may experience different results due to hormonal changes.

What parts of my body can be treated?
Believe it or not, we can treat any part of the body and our clients include both men and women. With the laser's larger 18mm spot size, we can treat virtually any part of the body beginning with the head down to the toes. Women tend to treat their upper lip, the underarms, the bikini lines, and their legs, whereas men tend to treat the back of the neck, their back, chest, and abdomen.

How long are the treatments?
While your exact treatment time will depend upon which part of your body is being treated, all body areas take no longer than 30 minutes. The beauty of this procedure is that there is absolutely no downtime meaning you can literally come in on your lunch break and return back to your normal activities immediately after you get the procedure done.

What will I look like in between sessions?
Any visible hair will be removed during the treatment and the hair that cannot be seen by the naked eye will shed in approximately two weeks. Depending on which area was treated, the skin will remain smooth for around 4 to 6 weeks before you start to see fine hairs growing again. By repeating your sessions according to schedule, the area can remain free of hair throughout your multiple procedures and your skin will appear completely smooth and clear.

Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is the least effective on people with blond, red, or gray hair, in which case your best alternative is electrolysis. Otherwise, you can expect to see results after your first treatment. Your skin will be smoother and your pores will not be as noticeable. The visible results will become more remarkable with each progressive treatment session.

How many treatments will it take?
Each person's hair color, thickness, and hair coarseness varies, as does their skin pigmentation. However, the majority of clients will need from 8 to 12 treatments for permanent results. The average person experiences from 70 to 90% reduction in hair growth after 8 to 12 treatment sessions; therefore, we recommend that our clients get 4 to 8 treatments at 4 to 6 week intervals between their treatments.

What are the risks involved?
You can expect to experience slight redness and swelling around the hair follicles immediately after your treatment. This is quite normal and a good sign that the follicle has responded well to treatment. The redness will resemble goose bumps and will feel like a mild sunburn; these effects last from 12 to 48 hours and gradually disappear.

What does it cost?
Prices vary and will depend on the area treated per a session. The majority of people need a minimum of 4 treatments; therefore, we offer special discounts for package deals. Our prices are very competitive and we offer multiple treatment discounts to our clients. We also offer a free consultation where we can go over your treatment needs and your desired results.

Can it treat brown spots?
After brown spots have been evaluated and pre-screened for cancer and precancerous cells by a dermatologist, and after it has been determined that there aren't any problems, then brown spots can be effectively removed, thus eliminating all types of sun damaged skin, benign, and unwanted pigmentation whether it's brown or red.

What type of cooling method is used?
We use a safe and comfortable method of integrated cooling which is more comfortable than Cryogen or Contact cooling. The air cooling cools the skin before, during and after the laser fires, thus providing the patient with the highest level of comfort. The Elite MPX uses the Zimmer Integrated Cooling System which sends a continuous flow of cooled air to the skin, thus providing tissue with maximum comfort and minimal side effects.
