Restylane®
Restylane® is a natural soft tissue dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles, fill folds (nasolabial folds), and add youthful volume to the lips, earlobes, and hollows beneath the lower eyes. Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid and maintains its shape and volume by attracting and binding water. This filler is a naturally occurring substance in the body, hence does not illicit allergic reactions. Injections generally last 4 to 6 months, and accordingly treatments are scheduled approximately twice a year. The best cosmetic results are in those patients that have Restylane layered, i.e. a bit injected at a time, followed by further volume to get an even, long lasting result. Resylane® is different that Botox® Cosmetic in that Restylane® is a cosmetic filler, whereas Botox® Cosmetic is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes underlying muscles. Many patients desire to have both products placed at the same time for maximal cosmetic results.
