Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injections placed underneath the skin to help smooth out certain types of lines and wrinkles. Fillers have been used in the face for many years. Dr. Edwin Ishoo only uses non-permanent dermal fillers approved by the FDA. These are extremely safe and have been in use for many years. As skin ages, it loses its underlying support structure. Soft tissue atrophy usually affects skin around the lips, chin, cheeks, under the eyes, in the corners of the mouth and the area between the nose and mouth.
There are many different types of dermal fillers, which include human collagen, hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres and even one's own fat (autologous fat). Each of the dermal fillers has different strengths and weakness, some last longer than others, sometimes a combination of different fillers may be used for best results. Dr. Ishoo will formulate a customized treatment for your specific needs and recommend the type of dermal filler that is right for you, these include:
There are two types of facial wrinkles, dynamic and static. Static wrinkles are those caused by a combination of gravity and loss of skin elasticity and are typically located in the lower third of the face. Examples of these types of wrinkles include the nasolabial folds (those that go from the nose to the corner of the lips) and marionette lines (those that go from the corner of the lips to chin) and the pre-jowl sulcus. These wrinkles are treated with dermal "fillers ". Please refer to the Botox® section for more information on dynamic wrinkles (cross-feet, glabellar lines, forehead wrinkles).
Risks or Concerns
Dermal Fillers have proven to be extremely safe. This advanced enhancement works to provide a smooth, natural look and feel. The greatest risk includes hematoma or blood pooling beneath the skin, and though rare, infection and necrosis (tissue death) or skin loss is possible. An unsatisfactory outcome is also a risk.
